Wood-turned bowl in Elm wood. Malte Frej's basins are formed from wind-fallen timber on a pole lathe, a traditional, foot-powered turning mill. They are shaped from freshly felled green wood, where both the making process and the subsequent drying give each bowl its distinct character. The surfaces retain marks from the tools as well as the natural movement of the wood as it dries.

Wash and Care: Wood is an organic material and will respond to its surroundings. Heat, light, and moisture may affect colour, shape, and surface over time.  

To ensure even drying, wooden bowls should be stored upright or turned regularly.  

Wooden bowls are not dishwasher safe and should not be left in water. Wash with mild soap and dry immediately.  

Untreated boards may be oiled with a thin layer of food-safe oil if desired. Avoid excessive use of organic oils, as they may become rancid. 
MATERIAL

Material: Crafted in Elm wood, a vibrant and robust timber. Elm wood varies from dark brown to light brown. You will often find other colours running through the heart wood. All wood products are made from freshly felled green wood. Each piece reflects the natural variation of the material.

ARTIST

Malte Frej Linnebjerg is a visual artist working between contemporary art and traditional craftsmanship. Drawing inspiration from folk art, rural culture, and historical craft techniques, he works across materials including wood and straw. 

His practice spans sculptural and functional objects, with each work developed in response to its individual context.
