Founded by Birgit Lyngbye Pedersen and Jimmy Olesen, Galleri Sonja grew out of a shared love of travelling and drawing inspiration from encounters, places, and atmospheres around the world. Their collaboration explores a universe centred on aesthetics and a quiet passion for creating places that feel alive through craft, nature, and community. Galleri Sonja is a playground under the umbrella of Sonja House. The name draws inspiration from the Danish artist Sonja Ferlov Mancoba and from the 1960s television series “Sonja” from Saxogade.
Galleri Sonja is a curated universe bringing together contemporary objects rooted in craftsmanship and craft traditions. The selection spans local and international artists — from established names to emerging practices — and gathers tactile works such as ceramics, glass, textiles, and wood. Each piece is shaped by hand, carrying the trace of histore and its maker: from thought to idea, from idea to reality.
Bornholm is a place of myth, history, stone, and water. Northern Bornholm in particular feels like a hidden gem — remote from the rush of the world, yet deeply connected to nature’s rhythms.
Conceived as part gallery, part archive, and part café, Galleri Sonja is a place to encounter crafted design that speaks through process, presence, and tactile sensibility. It is a space for slowing down — for observing, sensing, and experiencing. Galleri Sonja connects people to nature, to place, to craft, and to each other.
