Weaved stone by Julia Villemonte 

Working under the name Fili, she explores the relationship between material, place, and cultural memory through natural fibers such as abaca and rattan. Her work transforms woven plant materials into soft, intuitive forms, embedded on hand collected pebbles, signifying the translation between purpose and sculpture.

MATERIAL

Material: Naturally dyed fibers, such as abaca and rattan, are woven onto hand-collected stones from the Danish landscape and the Italian terrain 

Method: Julia handweaves unique apparel for each hand collected stone, using traditional techniques from Italy and the Philippines. 
ARTIST

Julia work may strike one as simple, though her weaving is based in technical precision and traditional technique. Heritage and experience from both Italy and the Philippines, Julia embeds stones, creating unique andstructural designs for each pebble. She works with natural fibers, such as abaca and rattan. The conclusion, of thesomewhat immediate,small and ordinary thing, now becomes a mythical symphony between materials.
