Mette Skjærbæk, founder of Karmameju Bioactive Skincare believes that we are deeply connected with nature, and that the body understands all that is natural. With her green heart and holistic approach to life's balance, Mette creates herbarium works with finesse and simplicity, respecting and portraying our symbiotic bonding with nature.  

Her work with herbarium pieces reflects a sensory and attentive connection to nature, shaped through a slow and continuous dialogue with plant material. Each work unfolds through layered processes, where the making becomes a form of exchange between hand and material. 

Plants are collected over time and pressed in books and larger presses, often gathered from her surroundings as well as from her family’s garden on Fyn. The drying process remains open and unpredictable, allowing each specimen to retain its own character. 

The compositions emerge through arrangement, where individual elements relate to one another as singular forms or in quiet groupings. Each work is unique and cannot be repeated. Fragility and strength exist side by side, held within the material.
