Hand-Carved Wooden Spoons - Made on Bornholm
Josephine Graff Vallant works from the eastern coast of Svaneke on Bornholm, carving wooden spoons by hand. Timber as birch, ash, and cherry wood form the basis of her work, sourced from her family home in Skagen and from the surrounding landscapes of Bornholm. The spoons are finished with clear linseed oil or beeswax.
Each piece is shaped slowly by hand, where grain and structure guide the final form, leaving traces of the hand that carved it. Spoons embody a tactile elegance - smooth, spiraling grooves shaped through patient craftsmanship. Josefine’s work captures the sensible tension between delicacy and the raw beauty of the material.
Her spoons move between sculpture and use. Through careful shaping, the familiar kitchen tool becomes both utensils and sculptural art pieces - a small miscellaneous object within everyday life.
