Kawabi

Table lamp by Kawabi.

Hand made with traditional East Asian techniques of binding reed and paper over a form. The Table Lamp explore the concept of spiritual gateways and how they symbolically mark a transition from the mundane to the sacred. Simple, pared down lines in the architecture help to elevate the paper illumination and create a central visual beacon.

Each piece is dimmable to three brightness settings with a brass touch switch ball.

Kawabi is a New York based studio founded by Aaron and Irisa Na-Chan Kawabi, working with paper and traditional joinery. Their practice explores inheritance and identity through craft.

Familiar forms are reinterpreted through precise construction, where structure is shaped without visible hardware. Light and material remain closely connected.

Their work translates cultural references into contemporary form.
