Bertel Bjerre

Small bowl by Bertel Bjerre

Working with coarse stoneware, Bertel Bjerre favours a restrained palette inspired by the natural surroundings of his studio on the coast of Northern Zealand. The clay’s own colour and surface remain present, allowing for the material to remain radiating.

Wash and Care:
Allow each piece to cool completely before cleaning, preserving its form and finish. Wash gently by hand in warm water with a mild, fragrance-free soap. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh detergents, which may compromise the surface. Rinse carefully and dry with a soft linen cloth, or allow to air-dry.

Material: Coarse stoneware

Method: By mixing multiple clay types, a spontaneous pattern is constructed, in the otherwise controlled wheel throwing process. Compositions of cast and rolled-out forms and surfaces are assembled, creating a somewhat coincidental patchwork.

Nature remains a recurring influence in Bertel Bjerre'spieces, drawing inspiration from his everyday surroundingsof his studio on the coastof Northern Zealand. Working primarily in coarse stonewareBertel's utilitarian pottery shows their raw form, and shades, resembling natural formations, shaped as raw, naturalisticentities.
