Emilie Fruergaard
Her ceramic practice begins with the tactile nature of clay and its ability to hold an imprint, respond to the hand, and transform through fire. Working intuitively with the material, she allows each object to develop through the interplay between her own gestures and the forces of firing, glaze, and raw material.
Electric, gas, and wood firing each leave a different character on the work, while locally sourced clay, stone, sand, and ash bring elements of the surrounding landscape directly into the ceramic surfaces. The final expression emerges through this exchange, where colour, texture, and irregularities remain part of the object.
With a background in ethnology, she is drawn to ceramics as a link between past and present. Clay carries a long history of human touch, function, and everyday life. Through traditional techniques and objects made to be held and used, she continues this relationship, creating pieces where touch becomes a connection between maker, material, and user.
