Bastian Bjerge
Bastian Bjerge is a design student at the Royal Danish Academy on Bornholm, currently studying Glass and Crafts. His practice draws on ceramics and floristry, rooted in his childhood by spending time in the garden with his mother. Intrigued and absorbed by the flowers, he started to learn the names of all the plants in their garden. Succeeding in working as a florist, he learned flower binding techniques, like the Japanese technique Ikebana, bonding floristry as a source for inspiration in his life.
Working with molten glass as well as ceramics, he is attentive to process and material behaviour. References to historical glassmaking, from wood firing to traditional blowing techniques. Plants and flowers continue to inform his approach, where organic structures and composition remain present across materials.
Expressing creativity through various materials, Bastian combines and creates universes with a sense of hope, romanticism, and nostalgia.
Each of his pieces is unique, numbered, and signed.
