EGG BED Piece by STRAFT

Japanese egg beds are also referred to as ‘Tamago Tsuto’, a traditional egg holder woven from straw, originally created to protect eggs during transport. Developed from a culture of careful and resourceful handling, the object reflects a longstanding Japanese tradition of using natural materials in everyday life.

Pieces are handcrafted from tightly twisted rice straw ropes.

Their objects carry an attentiveness to material and craft, exploring the relationship between nature, use, and form. Defined by composure, precision, and sensitivity, the work highlights the inherent qualities of the material.
