Connected: A Dialogue Between Nature and Craft
10.06. - 12.07.26.

For 3daysofdesign, Bornholm’s GalleriSonja brings its practice of curation and craft preservation to Copenhagen.

Founded by Birgit Lyngbye Pedersen and Jimmy Olesen, Galleri Sonja was inspired by Bornholm’s history as a place for artists. The island’s natural beauty has influenced creatives for over a century, drawn by its light and landscape. Now, Galleri Sonja engages local and international artists, established and emerging, to continue Bornholm’s tradition of nurturing makers.

Connected: A Dialogue Between Nature and Craft by Galleri Sonja is on view at Copenhagen’s Kvindernes Bygning from June 10-12 during 3daysofdesign. Bringing together the works of international artists in an exhibition designed by Norm Architects for the occasion, the gallery strips back the experience of interacting with design to its most essential beginnings: materiality. The exhibition’s core focus is, therefore, on the envisioned process of shaping nature into art through craft. Featuring Sara Martinsen, Von Linné, Mette Skjærbæk, Straft, Julie Fuhlendorff, Cécile Daladier, and Kawabi, among others, guests are invited to view plant fibers, paper, clay, glass, and textiles through their unique lenses.

The curation process for Connected has been extensive and highly personal, with founders Birgit and Jimmy traveling across Europe to hand-collect artists’ pieces, and artists flying in from as far as Japan to create their works on-site. Many of the curated works incorporate found, natural materials from the island of Bornholm itself. It’s through this kind of work that connections between makers and communities are strengthened—in real life, with human touch.

The exhibition will feature a wool knitting workshop with Hedestrik on June 10th from 15:00-16:00, and a daily tea ceremony guided by Tyst Te from 12:00-14:00, with an accompanying cake service by pastry artist Majka Koryciak of Spolsky Studio on June 11th and by Amalie Svarre Nielsen on June 12th. Reflective of Galleri Sonja’s core principles, the programming encourages curiosity and touch—a way to engage with craft directly, learn about its application, and foster community around it.

Norm Architects have designed both Galleri Sonja’s Bornholm space and its exhibition for 3daysofdesign. As a design partner, their work has created a consistent, thoughtful framework.
