For 3daysofdesign, Bornholm’s GalleriSonja brings its practice of curation and craft preservation to Copenhagen.
Founded by Birgit Lyngbye Pedersen and Jimmy Olesen, Galleri Sonja was inspired by Bornholm’s history as a place for artists. The island’s natural beauty has influenced creatives for over a century, drawn by its light and landscape. Now, Galleri Sonja engages local and international artists, established and emerging, to continue Bornholm’s tradition of nurturing makers.
Connected: A Dialogue Between Nature and Craft by Galleri Sonja is on view at Copenhagen’s Kvindernes Bygning from June 10-12 during 3daysofdesign. Bringing together the works of international artists in an exhibition designed by Norm Architects for the occasion, the gallery strips back the experience of interacting with design to its most essential beginnings: materiality. The exhibition’s core focus is, therefore, on the envisioned process of shaping nature into art through craft. Featuring Sara Martinsen, Von Linné, Mette Skjærbæk, Straft, Julie Fuhlendorff, Cécile Daladier, and Kawabi, among others, guests are invited to view plant fibers, paper, clay, glass, and textiles through their unique lenses.
