Tyge Axel Holm
Tyge Axel Holm, established in 1980, works with wood through systematic and considered processes. Trained as a furniture architect and product designer, his practice is rooted in craftsmanship, function, and long-term material responsibility.
Wood is central to his work. He approaches it as an organic and renewable material, shaped with respect for sustainability and enduring use. His objects carry a calm and grounded presence, where aesthetics, quality, and function exist in balance. Pattern formation and hand-turned techniques play an essential role in his process. Each piece reflects an attentiveness to grain, proportion, and surface.
Tyge’s work extends beyond the studio into an international context. He has contributed to global sustainability dialogues, including the creation of a commissioned table installation for COP15, where material awareness and responsible design formed part of a broader environmental conversation.
In collaboration with Galleri Sonja, Tyge has developed a series of ash flower presses in two sizes, alongside a curated selection of cutting boards and trays. The flower presses are designed specifically for the gallery, defined by refined construction and material sensitivity. Based on Bornholm, he is actively engaged in local sustainability initiatives and cultivates biodynamically grown produce in small-scale production.
