Straft

Selected Works

STRAFT is a Japanese craft unit founded by Tamaki Ishii and Kazuma Yamagami, working with rice straw deeply rooted in Japanese tradition. Using handwoven straw traditionally connected to rice harvesting, they bring inherited techniques into a contemporary context.

Their functional objects and installations explore the relationship between nature, use, and form. Through precise handwork and an attentiveness to the natural qualities of the straw, STRAFT creates works where Japanese craft traditions and contemporary expression come together.
