Anne Mette Hjortshøj

Anne Mette Hjortshøj works from her ceramic studio on the island of Bornholm. Drawing on the Danish pottery tradition, her pieces are fired in a self-built two-chamber kiln oven using wood and salt, resulting in subtle variation and depth.

The objects have a grounded strength. Forms are balanced and functional. Surfaces remain tactile. Each piece holds the trace of the hand. Clear, restrained, and composed.

Her practice is both rigorous and exploratory. Familiar forms are revisited through flame and repetition. An attentive approach to glaze, firing, and local materials.

Works by Anne Mette Hjortshøj are available exclusively at Galleri Sonja Bornholm.
